Neighborhood Preschool - Classes

For the 2010/2011 school year:
There may still be an opening in the morning and afternoon classes.
School starts on September 14th.
We meet on Tuesdays through Thursdays beginning September 14th through June 14th.

Show-And-Tell is scheduled regularly, and field trips are a fun part of our curriculum.

We follow the Seattle Public School calendar in regard to holidays and school breaks.  The first and last days of school will be slightly different.

Science Chest with Butterfly Theme

The Learning Centers
Children can explore:
The block center
(hand-eye coordination, finger dexterity, planning, shapes, etc.)
We have wooden blocks, connecting blocks, puzzles, animal families and habitat backgrounds, dollhouse and accessories, and many more rotating activities.
The library (lots of new titles, and a variety of interesting books for this age)
I get new books from the library each month on our theme, our season, any special events or holidays, and phonic books for our letters for the month.
The dramatic play center (dressing up, role-playing, language development, etc.)
So far this year, we have had a fire station and fire engine, a grocery store, a library, a home with cardboard house, and more!
The writing center (pre-writing activities, mail, exposure to letters and their shapes)
Typewriter to practice on, anything with buttons and numbers, writing in sand, making letters with wood, stationery, and other writing activities.
The art center (a balance of project-based and free-form art, emphasizing process)
Ingredients for creativity always on the shelves.  Coloring and painting, cutting and pasting, dough and decoupage, recycled materials creations.
The sensory table (measuring, pouring, textures)
We use monster trucks in sand, search for magnetic objects in packing peanuts, explore ice made at home with fun colors and toys inside, feel around in gooey goo, stir warm water and soap for washing babies, dry beans and rice with measuring cups, and more.
The science chest (exploring natural objects, classifying and sorting, senses, etc.)
Sometimes we are examining butterflies with microscopes.  Sometimes we are weighing and measuring dry beans, salt, and popcorn kernels.
